OUR HISTORY
Wine, the best companion at any time and place
A story of tradition, passion, and dedication passed down from generation to generation, creating exceptional wines that carry the authentic flavor of our land.
In the village of Plaza Vieja, Bolívar municipality, Valle del Cauca, Mr. Ceferino González planted the first grapevines brought from Spain, Italy, and Chile. With this pioneering gesture, he turned the region into a key grape producer and left a legacy that shaped the entire community.
Ceferino Gonzales inherited the passion for wine and decided to pass on his knowledge of winemaking to Mr. Onofre Benitez and his wife Teresa, family friends. The current owner, Mr. José Onofre Benítez, proudly carries on the tradition.
José Onofre Benítez Canizales, the eldest son, decided to turn the family tradition into a business. He founded his own production facility and store, where he began marketing the family wines under the brand Vinos Don José Onofre.
Vinos Don José Onofre is a growing regional microenterprise. The raw materials are locally cultivated, the team is made up of regional workers, and the storefront has become a traditional restaurant offering typical food paired with house wines.
Visitors can enjoy a complete experience: guided tours through the vineyards and production facility, where they discover the artisanal winemaking process. A visit to El Refugio de Onofre becomes an unforgettable memory.
